Much to Carl’s surprise, his mum bought him a secondhand guitar when he was 15 years old. It was a stroke of genius. Since that time Carl has performed, recorded and released music throughout New Zealand and in Australia with various bands and ensembles. In 2011 he completed a Masters in Music, focusing on performance and songwriting for rock and orchestral ensembles. His main instrument is actually voice, and Carl can also play piano, drums, bass guitar, ukulele and write for a full orchestra.

Carl has been tutoring through MusiqHub since 2014 and in July of 2018 decided to buy his side of the business, which at that stage was about 70 students in 7 schools. He enlisted the help of two part time tutors and slowly built the business. Now, with nearly 200 students registered across 17 venues, he is spending more and more time making sure the business is running smoothly. But Carl, along with a crew that has expanded to include 5 other top-notch tutors, still thoroughly enjoys the challenge of inspiring and guiding young people on their musical journey.

Carl is also an actor, and has performed in many plays in Hamilton, as well as been involved in various local and national film projects, advertisements and voice acting. In his spare time Carl also enjoys playing and watching football. He has a wife and a daughter, Alba, aged 12.
