About the Violin
The violin is a string instrument, usually with four strings. It has ancient beginnings but most of its characteristics that we are familiar with today were developed in 16th century Italy. It is one of the most important instruments in classical music because the tone stands out above other instruments. It is therefore a great choice of instrument to play the melody line of a composition. Violins also make up a large part of an orchestra. String instruments also became popular in soul, disco and folk music in recent times.
