About the Ukulele

The ukulele is a member of the guitar family of instruments and it normally has four strings. It originated in the 19th century from Hawaii. It became popular in the United States in the early 20th century and then this popularity spread around the world. There are four common sizes of the ukulele which are soprano, concert, tenor and baritone.
Famous ukulele players include Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz and Jack Johnson. It can be played as a solo instrument but ukulele ensembles are also very popular.
